After hearing many snobby reviews of Chinese import cellos, I bought this about a year ago for my son. I thought it would be worth the risk for the price. It has turned out to be just that, a good risk. Who knows how it will hold up in 5 or 10 years? As of now however, I would do it all over again. My biggest suggestion for anyone thinking of purchasing this would be to immediately order a good set of strings. The ones that come with are OK, but a good set (I bought D'Addario ) increase the quality of the sound exponentially. The misfortune of trying to buy this cello over the internet is that one can't actually touch or play this before buying. I live in Allentown, Pa. If anyone would like to see or play it, e-mail me alanwg@rcn.com.

When I received this cello, I took it to a luthier to upgrade the strings, adjusted the sound post and the neck and now it has a nice deep sound. And with the bow and the case, I think it's a great bargain for people starting to play.

After I received the cello, I took it to a luthier to replace the strings with Helicores. The results were amazing. It sounds really good. It is mellow with a hint of spark. It cost more for the strings but it was all worth it. This is a good price considering the nice bow, stand, and the extra hard case.
